    Worldwide, the average water availability per person is close to 7,000 cubic metres per person per year; in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, it is about 1,200 cubic metres. With the population expected to grow from nearly 300 million in 2008 to almost 500 million in 2025, the already dismal per capita availability of water is expected to halve by 2050.
  • Dubai Electricity and Water Authority launches new main substation at consulate area 03 Aug 2011, AME Info
    Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) launched a new 132 KV main Substation with a capacity of 150 Megavolt Ampere in the Consulate area, Bur Dubai during the second quarter of this year. The cost of this substation is around Dhs135m and is intended to secure the ever-growing demand for electricity for different purposes.
  • UAE set to issue global tender for nuclear fuel purchase 30 July 2011, AME Info
    The Emirates Nuclear Energy Corp (Enec) is planning to issue an international tender to buy nuclear fuel needed to begin operating the country's nuclear plants, Reuters has reported. The nuclear regulator will agree to contracts for obtaining the uranium, converting it and enriching the fuel for use in its plants' nuclear reactors. The UAE has said it expects to start its first nuclear power plant in 2017.
